Hamish Stewart’s recent Impact evaluation has made us feel proud of PACE and it’s amazing network of educators, in schools, conservancies and wider communities all across Africa.
WHY EVALUATE ? PACE is extremely popular, with an estimated 1.6 million children using PACE materials across Africa, as of 2025. But are these resources and the way they are used making a difference to conservation and to people’s lives. This evaluation attempted to answer those questions, building on previous detailed evaluations in 2016 and 2019.
The evaluation had two primary objectives –
Fifty seven PACE users and distributers from 13 countries (Botswana, Cameroon, DRC, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe) completed a 50 point questionaire. Eight 30 minute interviews were also conducted, with eleven key PACE users and distributers. The interviews discussed and dug deeper into the responses given in questionaires.
FEEDBACK – The feedback for all PACE resources was overwhelmingly positive. General responses included:
